Interview “Gotcha” Questions

If you’re a full-on GenX’er, like me, you’ll remember the scene from Reality Bites when Winona Ryder is asked to define irony as she is being escorted out of a job interview.

It reminds me of a similar experience I had early in my career when I was interviewing at a cool Minneapolis advertising agency. I was so excited! Then came the question: “Can you describe the difference between quantitative and qualitative research?”

My mind went blank. I totally blew it and may have responded similarly to Winona Ryder: “I know it when I see it!”
